First Look of the Day: Disney has released its first pic of Angelina Jolie as the villain in the upcoming Maleficent, and the casting obviously is perfection. The film, scheduled for March 2014, will tell the backstory of the dark queen from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty.

“I’ve already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy,” Jolie, who also is producing the film, told EW earlier this year.

Bonus: Elle Fanning plays Aurora!

…OBJECTION!  Since when does Maleficent have fishlips, hmmmmm.  I like Maleficent because she looks like me, long-faced, androgynous and green.   How sad is it, she was one of my early role models, because she was one of the only female characters in cartoons I could relate to. (LIKE, WOW. I AM ALSO SECRETLY A DRAGON.)

Angelina Jolie is none of those things. (Also, I’m tired of seeing her always be the default “dangerous lady.”

I want to know how this movie isn’t Wicked. I mean, Maleficent is even supposed to have green skin.
And why do we need her backstory anyway? Is this a story that needs to be told? What possible explanation could be given for a person cursing a child in retaliation for not being given an invitation?
